Our Wood Grades
We only use quality timber, and we grade it clearly so you know what you are buying. Here is a simple guide to the woods and grades we supply.
Prime European Oak
Our top grade oak and the one we recommend for a premium finish. It has a distinctive grain, glues, stains and finishes well, and suits period homes and stained or oiled finishes.
Character Oak
A 3rd grade American glacial oak with extra knots and cracks and a slightly lighter colour than Prime European Oak. A good choice for a rustic look, or if you plan to stain it.
Unsorted Grade Softwood Pine
The highest grade of pine on the market, despite the name. It is our most affordable main range and is ideal for painting, varnishing or staining. It has few knots, and any that do appear are small.
5ths Grade Softwood Pine
A budget alternative one grade below unsorted. It has more knots and is good value where cost matters most. We would always recommend premium grades where possible.
