How Much Skirting Board Do I Need?

Working out skirting quantity takes four steps.

The method

  1. Measure each wall along the floor, in metres.
  2. Add the walls together to get the total run.
  3. Deduct door openings, because there is no skirting across a doorway.
  4. Add an allowance for waste, typically around 10%, for cuts and mitres.

Example

A room with walls of 4m, 3m, 4m and 3m has a 14m run. With one 0.9m doorway that is 13.1m. Adding 10% gives about 14.4m, so you would order 15m.

Oak or pine?

Oak is sold by the metre. Pine can be bought in 4.2-metre lengths, so round up to whole lengths.
